Profile: Dr. Sharad Sharma embarked on a distinguished medical career after obtaining his MS in 1994, beginning as a lecturer in Navi Mumbai.
Dr. Sharma’s academic journey includes progression to the positions of associate professor and graduate and postgraduate teacher in the same institution. In 2003, he pursued a Diploma in Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at Gem Hospital, Coimbatore, endorsed by the Society for American Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons (SAGES) under the guidance of Dr. C Palanivelu. Dr. Sharma further honed his skills with training in D2 gastrectomy at NUH, Singapore, in 2006.
His commitment to advancing his expertise in surgical techniques led to several prestigious fellowships, including the Fellowship (FIAGES) by the Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endo Surgeons in 2007, and the Fellowship in Minimal Access Surgery (FMAS) by the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India in 2008. Dr. Sharma’s international exposure includes training in Bariatric & Metabolic Surgery under Dr. Philip Schauer at The Cleveland Clinic, Ohio, USA, in 2009.
Dr. Sharma’s interest in bariatric surgery emerged in 2006, leading to his participation in masterclasses and animal lab training in Delhi and Mumbai. In 2009, he completed a certificate course on ‘Essentials in Bariatrics’ conducted by the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgeons and underwent further training with Dr. Phil Schauer at the Cleveland Clinic.
Dr. Sharad Sharma holds the distinction of being the founder Surgeon of the Department of Bariatric Surgery at MGM’s New Bombay Hospital, Vashi, and the founder Surgeon of the Department of Minimal Access Surgery at Hiranandani Hospital, Vashi. His commitment to staying at the forefront of surgical advancements is evident in his completion of the Da Vinci robot console surgeon training program at the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi, in 2017.
