Vascular Surgery

The experts in vascular surgery diagnose and treat conditions affecting the circulation including diseases of arteries/veins. They treat all parts of vascular system apart from heart and brain. The department specializes in the innovative treatment of chronic disease, carotid disease, mesentric disease and venous disease in patients of all ages.

The department offers comprehensive care with a multi-disciplinary team of vascular surgeons, physiotherapists, nephrologists, neurologists, cardiologists, diabetologists, orthopaedicians and other teams to deliver when it is needed the most.

The department essentially offers comprehensive treatment from open surgical procedures to minimal invasive surgery (Endovascular).

The Vascular & endovascular surgery department at MGM Hospital Vashi is well equipped to do all procedures on arteries and veins by open, endovascular and hybrid methods 24 x 7. The state-of-the-art infrastructure is well equipped to perform MRI/ CT/ DSA within minutes to deliver healthcare when it is needed in emergency.

We have teams trained in the diagnosis and management using most sophisticated surgical and endovascular techniques to treat the most complicated conditions.

Our experts involved in the treatment of vascular diseases have the breadth of expertise and team work ethic that they subscribe to. Through a caring and respectful approach they aim to provide their patients with the highest quality of medical attention.

Vascular Surgery Arterial
Treatment for gangrene: Arterial bypass surgery
  • Using autogenous vein or engineered graft is the commonest vascular surgical procedure performed by vascular surgeons. Critical lower ischemia is the most frequent indication for bypass procedures, since without vascular interventions limb and sometimes life loss is imminent.
  • Procedures commonly performed for lower limb ischemia:
    • Aorto-Iliac/ Femoral Bypass Graft
    • Femoral Popliteal Bypass.
    • Infra Popliteal (Below Knee) Bypass/Distal Bypass procedures can be performed down to the arteries in the foot.
  • Bypass to upper limb arteries and those in the neck
  • Other procedures include Visceral Arterial/Venous (Rental, Mesenteric, Portal Vein) bypass procedures.
  • Similar procedures in the upper limbs including Cervical and First Rib Resection for Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
Peripheral Angioplasty/ stenting

Vascular and endovascular surgeons are well versed to perform even the angioplasties/ stenting making them hybrid surgeons.
These can be done for gangrene and mixed aetiology ulcers.

Aneurysm Surgery
For various peripheral aneurysms including aortic, popliteal, visceral arteries. All aneurysms should be repaired, depending on their size, before they cause symptoms. We perform both open and endovascular repair of these aneurysm (EVAR/ TEVAR).
Endarterectomy (Carotid and Others)
Involves removal of diseased intima of the artery. Carotid artery endarterectomy for prevention of stroke is a common procedure, usually under local anesthesia; it is very well tolerated with excellent outcome.
Embolectomy / Thrombectomy
For acute ischemia, which need to be done ideally within 6 hours of onset of symptoms, for the best outcome. Commonest is in the legs, less in the upper limbs and other blood vessels
Vascular Surgery Varicose
Varicose vein

Around 40% of the population suffers from varicose veins. We at MGM Hospital Vashi are well equipped to deal with them by the latest & most efficient technologies along with hybrid procedures. Venous ulcer management remains our key service.

Diabetic- ischaemic foot management
Diabetes is now increasing at an exponential pace and with more diabetic foot wounds around, we are the best at treating them with timely done procedures and physiotherapists/ orthotics for rehabilitation.
Deep vein thrombosis
  • Sudden leg swelling can be dangerous and needs urgent referral for timely management with medications/ intervention to dissolve the clot.
  • Most DVT's can be managed with just medications as we follow international protocols stringently.
  • We also have the advance technologies to dissolve and suck the clot out to prevent long term complication of leg discoloration/ swelling and wounds.
  • IVC filter insertion is advised only when needed to prevent clot from going to the lungs and save life.
Vascular Trauma Surgery
Is frequently performed and increasing due to road traffic accidents and iatrogenic traumas. If correction is delayed beyond 6 hours, it will invariably result in amputation. Surgeons (Vascular, Orthopaedic and plastic) work in sync to achieve the best possible outcomes.
Upper Limb Ischemia/Thoracic Outlet Syndrome
The patients are younger, and procedures yield excellent results in carefully selected patients.
Haemodialysis Access Surgery
  • Procedures in chronic kidney failure patients who are dialysis dependant; AV fistula, AV graft, Perm-Cath insertion.
  • We do our own ultrasound scans before and during surgery, which ensures best results.

What are the different types of Vascular diseases?

There are different types of vascular diseases like atherosclerosis, peripheral artery disease, varicose veins, collagen vascular disease, and many more. All vascular diseases can be treated completely when diagnosed at the right time

Is vascular surgery serious?

During these procedures, surgeons create a new blood flow conduit to bypass the blocked area and restore direct blood flow to the lower leg and foot. This is a major surgical procedure that is carried out under anaesthesia through leg incisions.

Why should you consider vascular surgery?
When patients discover they have a vascular issue that could cause serious difficulties, they frequently require the services of a vascular surgeon. If you’ve been sent to a vascular surgeon, it’s likely that your illness requires more investigation and treatment. MGM Hospital offers both -traditional and modern techniques to treat vascular diseases. The experts also use laser procedures to treat vascular concerns.
What is a vascular disorder?
When the blood vessels are affected by an abnormal condition, it is called vascular disease. This typically leads to significant injury or death. Any abnormal state of the blood arteries is referred to as vascular disease. Outside of the heart, vascular disorders can “appear” everywhere.
Are varicose veins life-threatening?
Varicose veins aren’t usually dangerous to your life or limbs, and they don’t usually make you more likely to get deep vein thrombosis (DVT) or blood clots, as a lot of people worry about.
Can varicose veins fade over time?

Varicose veins generally once affected can stay with you for a lifetime unless treated. Although walking and following home tips may help you manage the symptoms, varicose veins require proper medical treatment to completely cure.
